ANTICS ON THE 4TH: 1874
"This particular 4th of July started at 5 a.m. with the booming of a cannon, no one tells who owned it or where it was located, and it was fired intermittently until 9 a.m. that morning when, presumably, the real festivities got under" (Bakken 1976, 204).
